What is responsible use?

Responsible use of medicines in animals is based onĀ a holistic approach of minimising diseaseĀ through concepts including:

  • biosecurity: a set of preventative measures aiming to keep groups of animals healthy or to limit the spread of diseases within an animal population;
  • good housing and ventilation;
  • good hygiene;
  • appropriate nutrition;
  • regular monitoring of health and welfare;
  • animal health planning;
  • use of diagnostics;
  • vaccination;
  • using and maintaining the pharmacovigilance system.

Despite these efforts, animals can get still sick and may require different treatments. It is of utmost importance that all medicines are used responsibly.
